Abstract


Th e paper intends to provide an overview of qualitative research methods in Medical Education, defi ning the origins, objectives and approaches.
Focuses of attention are represented by the data collection tools (interviews, observation, assembly of textual documents) and by the data analysis tools (thematic analysis, discourse analysis and interpretation), with some examples of national and international research conducted.
Finally, the article discusses the important issue of the scientific rigor in the Medical Education research fi eld, trying to offer some paths on which to refl ect and using positive examples that can guide it, in line with the demand and the object of research.
